Yesterday, I received an alarmed email from my marketing service informing me that 7.58% of my readers had unsubscribed after I wrote They Said Trump Is A Malignant Narcissist. Was I off-topic, they wanted to know? Had I erred in some way?
I've been writing about all the usual topics - cults, narcissism, freedom but as they relate to America and Donald Trump. Apparently, that pissed off exactly 7.58% of my subscribers who are Biden/Harris supporters.
Then I realized something: You can't write about narcissism without also writing about America, patriotism, freedom...and Donald Trump.
Our fight against narcissism is a fight for our God-given American Freedoms in the microcosm of our relationships. But you won't even know you have those freedoms without America. What we're fighting for, nationally and personally, is for freedom "against all enemies, foreign and domestic." Emphasis on domestic.
I first wrote about this topic back in July of 2016 where I argued that Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness are exactly what our narcissists prevent us from enjoying. It's an oxymoron because our narcissists may love America just as much as we do, but they see no hypocrisy in treading on our God-given rights. #donttreadonme
I remember my father sitting me down before an election, asking exactly whom I intended to vote for so he could verify that I was voting correctly. Even my vote was not my vote. Yet I learned my love of America at his knee. When my parents threatened to sue in 2016, my attorney simply pointed out that Freedom of Speech was my right too. 'Nuff said.
On the other side of this planet, one of my friends is fighting for their freedom. The laws of their country are vastly different than here in the USA. If this individual, who is in their thirties, stops living with and financially supporting their abusive parent...they face jail. There is no "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" protecting them regardless of abuse.
The God-given freedoms we take foregranted are illegal according to man's law on the other side of the globe. Yet, as my friend told me on Friday, jail would feel more free than being trapped for the rest of their lives with their narcissistic parent. That is not a victim! That is a fighter who inspires me!
"We hold these Truths to be Self-Evident," yet narcissists deprive us of them so when we finally get them, we feel downright hedonistic. I know I did.
The Americans of the 1700s had all the rights they "needed." They had homes, food and clothes. But it wasn't enough.
Our Founding Fathers said, "No! We want all our freedoms or we don't want life at all."
Right..and knew they were right.
That's why Beyond Narcs...Get Happy is pivoting and expanding in scope. Of course, we'll continue to talk about narcissism, but no longer from the narrow point-of-view that limits it to merely a Mental Health topic. At PsychCentral, as a supporter of President Trump, I felt that I, and I alone, was not allowed to write about politics while Dr. Grohol and all the other bloggers spit vitriol at our "duly elected and beloved" president, to quote Black Conservative Patriot.
Well, that stops now and, if that offends you, thank you for the privilege of healing together. You're more than welcome to unsubscribe.
Narcissism is a spiritual topic.
Narcissism is a historical topic.
Narcissism is an American topic.
So fasten your seatbealts, Ladies and Gentlemen*, cause this is going to be a ride like we've never had before. We're tracking the history of our national fight against narcissism, foreign and domestic, back to 1776 and before. We stand on the shoulders of giants then and now.
I want to be among them.
* It's so nice to say "Ladies and Gentlemen" without being vilified for such a horribly binary phrase. ;)
