The year: 1881.
The month: May.
The place: DeSmet, SD.
That was the year of endless blizzards. The year the people of DeSmet nearly starved and froze to death. The year that train after train tried to reach DeSmet with desperately needed supplies, only to stall in snowdrifts so high and so hard that no amount of steam power could blast a path to the tiny town.
And so it was that all those supplies stayed neatly frozen in the stalled trains until the snow finally melted in May.
Sure, the people of DeSmet could've raised their fists to Heaven and railed against God but they didn't. In May of 1881, as they sat down to the first proper meal they'd enjoyed since Autumn (complete with butter!!!), on their lips was only gratitude. Pa Ingalls expressed it best when he said simply, “Lord, we thank Thee for all Thy bounty.” Laura observes, "That was all Pa said, but it seemed to say everything."
This year we too say from our hearts, “Lord, we thank Thee for all Thy bounty.”
If You're Alone This Thanksgiving
Being alone never feels quite so acute as it does on holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas. Whether you're alone-alone or alone-with-your-spouse, it's painful to see all those staged Facebook photos and imagine everyone else feasting, chatting and actually enjoying spending time with their big, happy families when your home is so quiet, by fate or by choice.
I know exactly how you feel. For 20+ years, my family's holidays were Norman Rockwell's Freedom from Want on steroids. Picture perfect. Everyone acting like they actually liked each other.
But sometimes the quietest family member is the only one holding the family together. When Grandpa quietly died in 2000, well, truth-will-out. My uncle finally got to kick his sister (my mom) to the curb. One thing led to another and today Michael and I find ourselves alone together each holiday...because we won't put up with the toxic, personality disordered, pathological lying and abuse of our families by birth/by law anymore. Not even for one miserable holiday.
Even though we have each other, there's still a feeling of aloneness that hurts acutely at holiday times and there are probably millions of people worldwide in the same boat.
Maybe I just wasn't paying attention. Maybe it happened...and they're trying to erase history à la the Mandela Effect. Maybe all-of-the-above.
"If only President Trump's overwhelming re-election win had been honored," I often think, "we'd be living in Camelot now."
But then I look back and think, "But it didn't seem like Camelot during his first four years in office."
Partly, it's my fault. Maybe it was Camelot-ish and I just wasn't paying attention, wasn't enjoying his Administration to the fullest.
But mostly it's the fault of the Loony Left and RINOs who fought him so viciously, that it became painful to watch him, always so embattled, always on the defensive, always stonkered at every turn. The political drama obscured so many of the glorious moments of the Camelot that President Trump and Melania were painstakingly trying to create.
All those beautiful moments of White House pageantry...the holidays, state dinners, etc. How did I miss so many of them? Was anyone reporting on them or was I watching the wrong news venues or...or...or?
President Trump and Melania are high-class-on-steroids. Always impeccably dressed, fulfilling White House protocol and traditions with the utmost in good taste and dignity with reverence for our history and veneration for the White House which a former President described as "the best house, because you go there to serve."
Here are a collection of videos of the glory days from President and Mrs. Trump's Camelot. Beautiful moments for us to cherish and relive as we wait patiently for the goodness, grace and glory of Trump's Camelot to return and finally be fulfilled.
Leftists Declare Pedo Hunter Biden's Laptop a Nothinburger and Advise "Love" To "Deal With" Nazi-like Trump Supporters
Twenty-four hours hadn't elapsed after pedo Hunter Biden's laptop hit the headlines, and the Leftists were already scoffing, "Nice try. Nothing to see here. Great big nothingburger. Failed again, MAGA idiots. What else ya got?". And this from the party of #metoo, all women should be believed. Uh-huh.
To further my angst, I awoke this morning to Medium's daily email promoting an article titled A Radical Proposal for Dealing with Trump Supporters After Biden Wins.
Hey, my MAGA buddies! How do you like needing to be dealt with?
Not so much, eh. I like it just about as much as Grinch Newsom's "no singing" rule for Thanksgiving, Christmas and church!
