As we celebrate the 246th anniversary of our Declaration of Independence from Great Britain, it's a perfect opportunity to check in with Tyler and Kelsee...now fighting for the Freedom to be as independent as the wounds they suffered on August 26th, 2021 in Kabul, Afghanistan will allow them to be.
You remember Tyler Vargas-Andrews, of course. Did you know that just two days ago he was finally recovered enough to (briefly) return home for the first time since last August!?! What a welcome he received!
And who could ever forget Kelsee Lainhart whose indefatigable courage and resolve has seen her progress from smiling from her hospital bed to walking with a walker, swimming and even driving (soon!). Of course, we mustn't forget Oli: Kelsee Lainhart's adorable service dog and a great American patriot too!
Let's face it: The People's Convoy (TPC) is a modest crowd. Maybe it's because they're a trifle older than the Ottawa Convoy, but when great kindness happens they tend to hide their light under a bushel when it should be splashed around social media. Since they're such a humble bunch, that's another way we can help the movement: do the splashing for them! #goodPR
Our story begins with a video so adorable it has me in tears every time I watch it and I've watched it a lot. Remember Marcus Sommers? He's the behind-the-scenes Leadership guy who managed the Convoy early last week while Brian and Mike were elsewhere.
What we didn't know is that when the Convoy took off from Adelanto, Marcus left his truck at home to focus on organizing/managing the Convoy. Being truckless was torture for him. As his wife, Michelle, phrased it, "He was feeling like a biker at Sturgis without a Harley." So Michelle and Marcus' friends arranged a very special surprise for him.
Back at home, Mrs. Sommers packed Marcus' truck with clean clothes, food and a sign that read, "Miss you, Big Daddy xoxo" and his friends drove his truck all the way to Hagerstown. When a shocked Marcus saw his beloved truck driving into the speedway, well! Words can't describe his reaction. Turn up your speakers and watch this adorable moment caught on video! If you don't shed a tear, you're made of sterner stuff than I am!
Just one of the many endearing qualities of President Trump is how he never forgets anyone. He's the only politician who routinely reminds us that, in addition to the Brave 13 who perished in Afghanistan on 8/26, there were many brave young servicemen and one servicewoman who were gravely injured.
On September 2nd, I heard "11 are in stable condition, 1 is in critical condition and 3 are in serious condition." Of those, I was only able to find the names of five. It's been over three months since I wrote about them in my article, 15 Marines Recuperating at Walter Reed! Who Are They? Here's How We Can Help!
It's high time we check back in with them to see how they're doing, if they've been able to come home yet and how we can continue to help them and their families!
No, don't look away. Meet the thousand-yard stare of 23-year old Marine Sergeant Tyler Vargas Andrews. He was hit in the suicide bombing at the Kabul airport on 8/26 and lost an arm and a leg. Twenty-nine surgeries later, his GoFundMe is still $30k dollars short of their goal. Please help if you're able: https://www.gofundme.com/f/the-sergeant-tyler-family-fund
You're supposed to forget all about Afghanistan. Forget the 13 Brave soldiers who died. Forget the wounded, especially double amputee Sgt. Tyler Vargas-Andrews. Nothing to see here. Move along.
Well, Americans have dug in their heels. We refuse to forget. We refuse to say, "Shucks. How unfortunate. Well, better luck next time."
And the Marines who served in Afghanistan during those last few months of chaos are speaking out. Brutally, viciously, profanely, honestly, anonymously.
These are their stories in their words.
You thought you knew how bad it was? Oh, Honey, you ain't heard nothin' yet.
She should have been planning her wedding to handsome Staff Sergeant Taylor Hoover. Instead, Nicole Weiss attended his funeral.
While Fake Biden bullies, blusters and frolics at his beach house, America is burying the Brave 13 whose blood silently drips from Biden's hands.
Their deaths were 100% preventable. They should never have happened. Yet their lives and their deaths are being too rapidly swept under the rug along with the hollow cries for Biden's impeachment.
There are no words but there are videos. Videos of the Brave 13's caskets making their slow way to their final resting places along highways, under bridges and down roads lined with thousands upon thousands of grieving Americans who dropped everything to pay their final respects.
There are videos of their funerals...and more coming every day.
And there are videos of their burials. The folding of the flag draping their coffin. The playing of Taps.
As we honor the Brave 13 who paid the ultimate price for Biden's intentional abandonment, let us not forget to support their brothers and sisters in arms who survived the same attack. For them, the battle has just begun as they recover from their wounds, surgeries and amputations at Walter Reed.
